BNP Paribas posted its 2027 Summer Analyst Internship in Global Markets, Sales & Trading, for New York on 16 December 2025. The internship it was filling starts in the summer of 2027, about eighteen months later. That gap is the most useful single fact about getting a sales and trading internship, and the easiest one to learn too late.
It is not the whole calendar, either. Citi's London posting for the same summer went up on 1 September 2026, almost nine months after BNP Paribas's, and HSBC's own listing for its 2027 intake showed three different application windows in three Asian markets. There is no single opening date for a sales and trading internship. There is a season, and each office sets its own.
What follows is that season written down: the summer analyst programs at the ten dealer banks by the names the banks give them, the US, UK and Asia routes, off-cycle internships, what the ten weeks contain, and what to do in the year before applying. The interview stages, from the online test to the final round, are on Sales and Trading Superday.
The ten dealers' internship programs at a glance
Each bank names its program differently, and the exact name is what to search for on its careers site.
| Bank | Program, as the bank names it | How it runs | Where the 2027 cycle was seen |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goldman Sachs | Summer Analyst Program, in FICC & Equities (Sales & Trading) | Nine to ten weeks; each applicant can choose up to four business and location combinations | London, Singapore, Hong Kong and Seoul |
| J.P. Morgan | Markets Summer Analyst Program | Nine weeks: five days of orientation and classroom training, then a desk or a sector team | Chicago, Los Angeles and New York |
| Morgan Stanley | Fixed Income Summer Analyst Program | Ten weeks: one week of classroom training, then rotations across the fixed income desks | New York, with commodities in Houston |
| Citi | Markets - Sales and Trading, Summer Analyst | Ten weeks from June: one week of training, then three desk rotations | New York, London, Hong Kong and Singapore; London posted 1 September 2026 |
| Bank of America | Global Markets Sales & Trading Rotational Summer Analyst Program | Two to three desks, with placement decided after hiring | New York, London, Singapore and Hong Kong; London deadline 11 October 2026 |
| Barclays | Not confirmed on the bank's own site | A sales and trading summer internship | 2027 cycle |
| Deutsche Bank | Not confirmed on the bank's own site | An internship in its Fixed Income & Currencies business | 2027 cycle |
| BNP Paribas | 2027 - Summer Analyst Internship - Global Markets, Sales & Trading | Rotational: each half of the summer on a different business line | New York, posted 16 December 2025 |
| HSBC | Markets - Sales and Trading - Graduate | A graduate role rather than an internship | Singapore, where its corporate and institutional banking postings for 2027 ran 3 September to 31 October 2026 |
| UBS | Not confirmed on the bank's own site | A sales and trading summer internship | 2027 cycle |
Two rows deserve a second look. Morgan Stanley's fixed income program is separate from its equities one, which is easy to miss and is covered below. And HSBC's entry is a graduate role: at HSBC in Singapore, the graduate and internship postings open and close on the same dates.
The floor itself also goes by different names: Markets at J.P. Morgan, Global Markets at Bank of America, Fixed Income & Currencies at Deutsche Bank. The division names, bank by bank, are tabulated on the interview questions hub, and they are worth knowing before searching a careers site.
Summer analyst, internship, graduate scheme: the vocabulary
The same rung of the ladder carries different names on either side of the Atlantic, and a search in the wrong vocabulary misses half the postings. These are the terms the banks themselves use.
| Term | Where you meet it | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Summer analyst program | US banks, and in program titles worldwide | The nine or ten week internship in the summer before the final year |
| Summer internship | The UK and Europe | The same internship under its UK name |
| Sophomore program | The US | An earlier summer program for second-year students, such as Bank of America's |
| Spring week or insight program | The UK | A few days inside a bank for first-year students |
| Off-cycle internship | EMEA and Asia-Pacific | Three, six or twelve months outside the summer, as Goldman Sachs runs it |
| Graduate program or scheme | Everywhere | The full-time intake for final-year students and recent graduates |
A candidate searching only for "summer analyst" on a London careers site, or only for "graduate scheme" on a New York one, is looking at the wrong shelf. Use both sets of words.
How the US calendar runs
US bulge-bracket summer analyst postings open in the December or January about eighteen months before the internship itself. BNP Paribas's own New York posting for the 2027 summer is dated 16 December 2025, the one dealer's exact opening date this page could confirm directly on the bank's own site.
Eighteen months sounds abstract until it is counted back from a real start date. Take a student on a four-year US degree who finishes in the spring of 2028 and wants the summer 2027 internship, the one before the final year:
- The internship starts in June 2027. Citi's ten-week program, for one, begins in June.
- Eighteen months before June 2027 is December 2025.
- A student finishing in the spring of 2028 started in the autumn of 2024, so December 2025 is the first term of the second year.
- The application, and the résumé, desk reasons and bond math behind it, has to be ready about fifteen months into university.
That is the uncomfortable part of the US route. The summer analyst class applies a few months into its second year, which is why the preparation later on is counted back from the posting, not from the internship.
Bank of America adds a rung below this one. Alongside its Global Markets Sales & Trading Rotational Summer Analyst Program, it runs a separate Global Markets Sales & Trading Rotational Sophomore Summer Analyst Program for sophomores, so a second-year student has a program of their own, a summer ahead of the main class.

Interview levelFor a US summer analyst internship starting in the summer of 2027, when did BNP Paribas post its New York sales and trading role?
Why there is no single opening date
The December window is a pattern, not a rule, and the exceptions sit inside the same cycle. Citi's London posting for the 2027 summer carries a posting date of 1 September 2026, eight and a half months after BNP Paribas's New York posting for a comparable role. Individual postings go up across a spread of months, office by office.
HSBC makes the same point inside one bank. Its own listing for the 2027 intake showed Singapore postings open from 3 September to 31 October 2026, Taiwan from 7 September to 31 October, and a Hong Kong management trainee program from 8 September to 30 November. Three markets, one bank, three windows.
The practical rule follows from all three examples: the date that matters is the one on the posting for the office and program being applied to. Postings close as well as open. Bank of America's London posting for the 2027 summer set its deadline at 11 October 2026, so a candidate who waited for a single industry date would have missed it.
The UK route, from insight day to graduate program
The UK route has more rungs than the American one, and the first comes early. The shape most students meet runs like this:
- First year, or the second year of a four-year course: an insight day or spring program, a few days inside a bank. Barclays lists insight days on its own early careers site, and several other dealers run spring programs for first-year students.
- Penultimate year: the summer internship, the same ten-week shape as a US summer analyst program. Citi's London posting asks for penultimate-year students with a 2:1 or equivalent; its Singapore and Hong Kong postings for the same 2027 cycle add a graduation window of December 2027 to June 2028.
- Final year or after: the graduate program, the full-time intake the internship feeds, plus the off-cycle internships in the next section.
Barclays' early careers site puts the choices side by side as four routes: Graduates, Interns, Apprenticeships and Discovery. Read all four before assuming the summer internship is the only door into a bank.
The London postings that carry dates also ran on a shorter lead than the US ones. Citi's went up on 1 September 2026, and Bank of America's closed on 11 October 2026, asking for students finishing between September 2027 and July 2028 who are on track for at least a 2:1, the upper second class of a UK degree.
| Route | Bank | The dated 2027 posting | Starts | Lead time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| US summer analyst | BNP Paribas | New York, posted 16 December 2025 | Summer 2027 | About eighteen months |
| London summer internship | Citi | London, posted 1 September 2026 | June 2027 | About nine months |
| Singapore internship | HSBC | Corporate and institutional banking, open 3 September to 31 October 2026 | 31 May 2027 | About nine months |
| Singapore graduate program | HSBC | The same window, 3 September to 31 October 2026 | 19 July 2027 | About ten months |
Off-cycle internships and who they suit
An off-cycle internship runs outside the summer class, and it is easy to overlook because it has no single season. Goldman Sachs publishes the clearest version. Its Off-Cycle Internships are three, six or twelve month programs for penultimate-year undergraduates, final-year undergraduates or recent graduates, run in FICC and Equities among other divisions, in EMEA and Asia-Pacific, and reviewed on a rolling basis.
Summer analyst program
- Nine or ten weeks over one summer
- For students in the year before they graduate
- Dated postings in a set season
Off-cycle internship
- Three, six or twelve months
- Penultimate-year and final-year students, and recent graduates
- Reviewed on a rolling basis
The eligibility list says who it suits. A final-year student who missed the summer class, or a recent graduate who still wants a trading seat, is exactly the candidate the summer program has moved past and the off-cycle program takes. A penultimate-year student can treat one as a second shot alongside the summer applications.
Off-cycle roles are less standardized than the summer class. Barclays, for one, has listed a 2027 off-cycle internship in its banking division in Madrid rather than on the trading floor, so check each bank's own listing before assuming the Goldman Sachs model applies everywhere.

The Asia route
Several of the dealers hire sales and trading interns in Asia under the same program names they use elsewhere. Goldman Sachs posted 2027 FICC & Equities summer analyst roles in Singapore, Hong Kong and Seoul alongside London. Citi's Markets summer analyst program posted in Hong Kong and Singapore as well as New York and London, and Bank of America's rotational program in Singapore and Hong Kong.
The calendar is where Asia differs. HSBC's Singapore postings for 2027 opened on 3 September 2026 and closed on 31 October, with internships starting on Monday 31 May 2027 and the graduate program on Monday 19 July 2027. HSBC's own sales and trading entry in Singapore is a graduate role, titled Markets - Sales and Trading - Graduate, and the Singapore internships sit on a lead of about nine months, closer to London than to New York.
The Asia postings are also plain about what they ask. None of the dealers' Asia postings for these programs lists a language requirement, and none states a visa policy; they screen on the same terms as everywhere else, when a candidate graduates and what degree they hold. The eligibility section of each posting is the document to read, not a forum's guess about who a desk will take.

Partner levelWhat did HSBC's listing for its 2027 intake show about application windows across its Asian markets?
Rotation or a fixed desk
Most of these programs do not put an intern on one desk for the whole summer. They rotate, and the banks spell out how:
- Citi: one week of training, then three rotations across different desks over ten weeks, with applicants naming a preferred track among Sales, Trading, Structuring, Quantitative Analysis, or Securitisation and Financing.
- Bank of America: two to three desks in fixed income, equities or both, with placement decided after the hiring process to match the business's needs with the analyst's interests and skills.
- Morgan Stanley: a week of classroom training, then multiple rotations across the fixed income desks.
- BNP Paribas: each half of the internship spent in a different global business line and functional role.
- J.P. Morgan: five days of orientation and classroom training, after which interns become part of a desk or research a sector with a team.
A rotation changes what the application has to prove. At a rotational bank, a candidate is hired into the program first and matched to desks later, so the application needs a credible interest in fixed income and a defensible first choice, not a lifelong commitment to one product.
Where the desk is decided relative to the final round varies by bank, and it shapes how the "why this desk" question gets asked. How each bank handles that match is on Sales and Trading Superday.
Test yourself
Interview levelAfter its first week of training, how does Citi's ten-week Markets summer analyst program spend the remaining weeks?
What the ten weeks contain
The programs that describe their structure open the same way: a week of training before an intern touches a desk. J.P. Morgan runs five days of orientation and classroom training, Morgan Stanley one week of classroom training, and Citi one week before its rotations begin. After that, the desks on offer depend on the bank.
| Bank | Desks, tracks or business lines the program names |
|---|---|
| J.P. Morgan | Sales, Trading, Structuring & Origination, Digital Markets |
| Morgan Stanley | Global Credit & Municipals, Securitized Products, Foreign Exchange and Emerging Markets, Interest Rates, Commodities |
| Citi | Sales, Trading, Structuring, Quantitative Analysis, Securitisation and Financing |
| BNP Paribas | Global Credit, G10 Rates, Foreign Exchange, Local Markets & Commodity Derivatives, Primary Credit Markets, Prime Solutions & Financing, Markets 360 research and strategy, and the equities lines |
| Bank of America | Two to three desks across fixed income and equity markets |
Read that table as a map of the floor. Morgan Stanley's list reads like the fixed income desks themselves: credit and municipals, securitized products, currencies and emerging markets, rates, commodities. Each has its own page among the fixed income trading desks, from rates trading to securitized products and emerging markets credit.
BNP Paribas's list shows the other axis. Its program pairs a business line with a functional role, sales, structuring, trading or research, so the same summer can mean selling credit in one half and trading rates in the other. The working day on each desk is on Day in the Life of a Fixed Income Trader.
Picking the right program at the same bank
Applying to the wrong program at the right bank is an avoidable way to lose a cycle, and three banks make the choice worth slowing down for:
- Morgan Stanley runs its Fixed Income Summer Analyst Program, under the business unit Fixed Income Sales and Trading, separately from its Institutional Equity Summer Analyst Program, which covers equities, equity derivatives and prime brokerage.
- Goldman Sachs lets each applicant choose up to four business and location combinations, so the choice of division and city is part of the application, not paperwork after it.
- J.P. Morgan splits its Markets program into Sales, Trading, Structuring & Origination and Digital Markets tracks, which puts the sales or trading decision at the application stage.
Whether to apply for sales or for trading is worth settling before any application goes in. Why Fixed Income covers how the two answers differ in an interview, and Fixed Income Sales covers the sales seat itself.

What turns an internship into an offer
The banks describe the step from intern to full-time analyst in a few words each. J.P. Morgan says top-performing interns may receive an offer of continued employment with the firm. Citi says successful summer analysts will be considered for a full-time position after graduation. Bank of America and BNP Paribas describe their internships as the route into full-time hiring without putting a number on it.
That wording has a practical reading. The summer is the last and longest stage of the selection, and the bar is performance on the desk rather than completing the program. Pay for the summer, and for the first full-time year after it, is on Fixed Income Trader Salary.
Test yourself
Warm-upHow do J.P. Morgan and Citi describe the route from a summer internship to a full-time offer?
Non-target and international candidates
No bank among the ten publishes a list of target schools. Every eligibility statement on these postings is written in other terms: a graduation window, a degree classification or a grade point average, and sometimes a line about the institution. Citi's Singapore and Hong Kong postings for the 2027 cycle ask for students of any discipline, from a top academic institution, working toward a competitive GPA.
A published filter is one a candidate can meet, and that is the useful way to read it. Whether a bank favors particular campuses is something no posting says either way, so a candidate outside the obvious schools does better by widening the number of doors than by waiting at one:
- Apply to the same program in more than one office where the bank posts it in several, since the dated London and Singapore postings ran on a shorter lead than New York's.
- Use the second doors: an off-cycle internship, a sophomore program, a spring or insight program.
- Build the proof a posting cannot ask for: the bond math, the market view log and the desk reasons in the next section.
For international candidates, the eligibility section of each posting is the document to read, office by office, since the same program is posted separately in each city. Goldman Sachs, Citi and Bank of America all post their 2027 summer programs city by city.
The twelve months before you apply
The year before an internship is the wrong year to plan around. Twelve months before a June 2027 internship is June 2026, six months after the US postings for that summer opened. The year that matters is the one before the posting: for the 2027 summer in New York, roughly December 2024 to December 2025, which is most of a student's first year and the start of the second.
The work in that year is the same whether the target is New York, London or Singapore, and most of it costs nothing:
- Learn the bond math before anything else. Price and yield, duration and convexity are worked through on Bond Math Interview Questions, and the bond calculator builds the intuition faster than formulas on a page.
- Keep a market view log. One line a day: where the ten-year Treasury closed, the shape of the curve, the last Federal Reserve decision, one credit or currency move. A few months of it becomes a market view with levels in it, which is what an interviewer asks for.
- Pick two desks and learn why. Read the fixed income trading desks and choose two whose products you could discuss for ten minutes; the reasons become the answer to why fixed income.
- Take a course if your university offers one. A module in fixed income, financial markets or statistics puts the interest on a résumé before the application does.
- Talk to people on the desks. Alumni, and people met at insight days, are the most direct way to learn what a desk does all day and whether it suits you.
- Apply for the earlier rungs. A spring or insight program in a UK first year, a sophomore program in a US second year, or an off-cycle internship after graduating.
When the posting is close, the interview readiness tool shows which question families still need work, and the families themselves are on Fixed Income Interview Questions.
A year-long plan, counted back from the posting
For a US summer analyst posting expected in December, the year before it breaks down roughly like this. Shift the months for a London or Singapore posting, which ran on a shorter lead in the 2027 cycle.
| Months before the posting | Focus | Why then |
|---|---|---|
| Twelve | Bond math basics; read the desk pages | Everything later builds on the arithmetic |
| Nine | Start the daily market view log | A view needs months of entries to mean anything |
| Six | Pick two desks; talk to people on them | Desk reasons need real conversations behind them |
| Three | Résumé, a one-minute case for each desk, first mock interviews | The application asks for all three |
| One | Watch each target bank's student careers page | Posting dates and deadlines are set office by office |
| The posting month | Apply early in the window | Deadlines, such as Bank of America's 11 October 2026 in London, arrive fast |
The bottom line
The postings for a summer 2027 internship in New York went up in December 2025, eighteen months ahead, and the dated London and Singapore postings for the same summer followed about nine months later. That spread is the calendar in one sentence: a season, set office by office, with New York opening first in the 2027 cycle.
Everything else follows from it. The programs have exact names worth searching, most rotate across desks, the offer goes to the top performers, and the preparation that counts happens in the year before the posting rather than the year before the internship. The stages after the application are on Sales and Trading Superday.
